    Apparently you are talking about someone looking for a sales job.
    I don’t see how this could be relevant to a non-sales job.

    Since you never mentioned this in your post directing readers to this audio-clip, I feel misled, and that my time has been wasted.

    For the record, at no level of job has any interviewer, from HR or the hiring department, future supervisor/manager, ever asked a question remotely like the one that allowed your “Candidate B” to lay out her plan.

    If you intend this to apply to non-sales jobs, please explain how it does.

    Caroline: I have noticed a lot of webinars and seminars on job seeking are tailored to sales positions. I’m in a very technical field that is most definitely -not- sales, and I think some of the techniques suggested by some would most likely offend non-sales related HR as being too aggressive.

    Listened to this very Pharma . You can’t go for a real sales position like Device and start speaking the 80/20 rule LOL ! This concept would remove you from any real Med Sales position because it screams staus quo non hunter plain and simple ! Way to much entry level pharma info on here !

    great advice about the 30/60/90 day plan! or simply ‘onboarding plan’…
    Yes, this will help, and take comfort in the blink phenomenon (in the first few seconds the decision is done, the rest of the interview time may sway the decision however the first impression is extremely important.

    I would argue that a plan like this would be even MORE effective in a non sales interview as those types of folks are less likely to do this. Why less likely? Because when you aren’t in sales you see the sales techniques as a bit pushy or even shady. But really great sales techniques are really just uncovering problems and providing targeted solutions. And this sounds a lot like what every job is: a problem solving position. So I would really encourage you to reconsider your position here.

    I have seen retail store managers, customer service professionals, sales professionals and technical roles use this plan effectively. It really is a great differentiator.

    Remember don’t just do the plan and hand it to the interviewer. You have to present and get cooperation in going over the plan to get the most value.

    I listened to the audio clip and found it quite interesting and feel it is a must for practice for those in search of a job( what ever the position – Sales or Technical).

    The primary objective of a job seeker is to sell himselves( his knowledge, sklillsets, expertise) to the prospective employer, so any means that would help him sell oneself more effectively than the competition is a welcome.

    Not to be rude but if you apply the 80/20 rule this won’t work in an interview situation. Nice and creative concept but you are better off on just focusing on your interview skills, research the company and its competitive landscape, and come prepared with some compelling questions.
